It’s just an old marine liquid pump of some type that is installed with the oil sump hose connected to it and a discharge hose that I stick in a container when I change oil. It lives on the starboard side, at the forward end of the engine compartment. I have a switch there and turn it on for about 15 seconds and it’s done. There is a cap on the end of the hose.
Finally have the engine put back together and running! Ended up paying a mechanic to do the reassembly. He is much younger skinnier and more wiry than me, so he was able to get right down into the engine compartment to get the job done.
In case anyone is interested I have added a couple of pictures of the manifold as it came back from the shop. They modified the new injection elbow so that the water is injected straight down toward the muffler as per the advice of the group here. The total price the shop charged to get all the rusty old pieces off and replace them with new ones (including all the studs) was C$400. This is way less than the Westerbeke dealer wanted for even an aftermarket injection elbow.
Once again; thanks to the entire group for the helpful advise and encouragement I recieved all along the way!
Iron pipe? That’s not meant to be a snarky answer; just to show the depths of my lack of mechanical knowledge. Sort of drives home the point that I am dangerous at any point past changing the water pump impeller.
I believe the photos show black steel pipe with a black malleable elbow that has been drilled and with a steel nipple welded into the elbow. The weld looks very nice!
