NS26 Mast Weight

We stepped the mast for White O’morn today. Four people and a crane. It went very smooth. I am relieved. Before the crane arrived we got out the bathroom scales and weighed the mast, the top end weighed 180# the bottom 220#, so the TOTAL Weight = 380#, with radio antenna, wind indicator, halyard, and flag halyard.

On a side note, she had been riding with the bow about 2" high because of the new electric motor, and the 500# of batteries that are installed behind where the old Westerbeke was. Stepping the mast brought the bow back down 1". If all these calculations are correct that means we have successfully raised the bow 1" and that should correct the drainage in the cockpit. Maybe I won’t be sitting on wet seats anymore.

When I pulled the mast on La Reina I asked the crane operator for the weight. He said 300 pounds but indicated that scale was not particularly accurate.
If you ever win the lottery and buy lithium batteries you will end up with the wet bottom syndrome again.

Thanks Mark. If I do win the lottery, I am sure that our then new Nonsuch 36 will have dry seats. I will let you know.
