Hearing a variety of opinions (and some very unnecessary political comments ) in a forum that is designed to discuss a boat we all admire and enjoy in our common pass-time along with less than constructive remarks and ideas reminds me of Sir Alec Issigonis. I think he pretty much nails the recent banter here and I suggest we simply stop it.
Please offer constructive ideas, not just negative criticisms. Newport IS a busy place in the summer as well as an exciting place. It’s a great place for a Nonsuch Rendezvous, (for reasons of weather protection, places to visit and food). It was in 1986 as well. Please, Let’s work together not against … Regards, Gary
I’ve had seasonal moorings in Jamestown, RI as well as Greenwich Cove in East Greenwich, RI for my 1989 NS30U.
If a distance race is contemplated by the organizers they might want to consider the annual events already on the Narr. Bay
calender for 2026.
East Greenwich Yacht Club Annual, held in mid-July (this year’s date is July 12). It’s a pursuit distance race in upper West Passage, around
government marks, but the RC may allow the Nonsuchers to determine their own course.
Safe Harbor Annual Regatta typically the first weekend in August. The first day is typically around Prudence Island but varies on weather conditions.
The Nonsuchers could probably do just the first day as the following days are W;L courses.
Following the first day distance race there is a great post-race party held at Safe Harbor New England Boatworks marina under a huge tent, on the grassy knoll
overlooking East Passage.
There is some programming in Discourse that kicks in when you say a user account “mirrors a mailing list” the way our Google Mirror does. That programming tries to untangle the stream of the conversation that makes up a post. It looks like it successfully pulls off the latest post (on top) but then at times something further down in the post screws things up. Background - Discourse creates “staged” usernames for the INA.Google users and attributes the post to them. Generally gets it right. David’s username (from a posting a couple of months ago) was in there as “_David_Young…etc.” and the leading underscore sorted his username to the top. When things got messed up, it ended up picking the first username. (my best guess at this point)
I have a hunch as to what is messing things up - but want to see if I can test it out.
Sorry about this. I corrected David’s staged username, but that might just mean the mistaken attribution will move to the next person. We will see.
Hi Robert,
The Rendezvous Committee is working on the budget, and sponsorship plan. Some details will be available in June. I will share them with you in a preliminary form at that time.
If you have ideas that you believe would be helpful for our planning process please email me, and I will help you get connected to the right team member.
Thanks,
Rob Cohen

We appreciate the passion and engagement from members of the Nonsuch community regarding the 2026 rendezvous. We’d like to clarify a few key points in response to recent concerns:
The committee to plan the 2026 event was formed before the 2024 election, and the choice of Newport, Rhode Island was made based on its rich sailing heritage, its accessibility, and its longstanding appeal to sailors on both sides of the border. This was a sailing decision—not a political one.
Traditionally, INA rendezvous are held every two years, alternating between Canada and the United States. The 2024 gathering was held in Canada, making the U.S. the appropriate host for 2026 in keeping with this long-established rotation. This tradition reflects our commitment to balance and shared stewardship of the Nonsuch legacy.
We also want to acknowledge that many American members are deeply saddened by the current tension between our countries. This is not something we shrug off lightly. But it’s precisely in times like these that communities like ours must stay focused on what unites us—our shared love of sailing, our boats, and the friendships that have grown from this group.
Politics should have no place in this endeavor. If you feel you cannot support the event under the current circumstances, we respect your decision and will truly miss your presence. The committee will continue to plan for the 2026 Rendezvous in the spirit of tradition, unity, and the enduring bond of the Nonsuch fleet.
We hope you will reconsider and join us in Newport.
My suggestion to the committee is to make allowance for ‘last minute’ attendees. With the mercurial nature of the Trump administration, by August 2026 the situation may well be quite different and Canadians will be less reluctant to participate.
