Bottom redo questions

Hi All -

I’m having the bottom on my 30U soda-blasted and stripped down to the fiberglass and built back up. No major issues, no blisters or anything, but they did find these pinholes throughout. Anyone had a similar issue and is this common on a Nonsuch? Solutions?

Do you know if your boat was ever hit by lightning? That’s one of the things they checked for when FATE was struck in 2006 (before I owned her.

Not that I or PO are aware of.

Might be worth checking with a moisture meter to see if there’s water absorbing into the fiberglass?

Hi Bob,

I went through the same process this past spring, and had the same result. Judging by the photo it looks exactly like my boat bottom. I had a few professionals look at it and they all agreed that the blasting revealed the small voids in the gelcoat. They all also agreed that the best solution is to skim over the holes with epoxy filler and sand to fair. I also had a field technical support person from Pettit look at it. We then did the epoxy barrier coating.
