Call for engine and replacement part information

A recent thread on water pumps have indicated that some of the Westerbeke engines on our boats are marinized Mitsubishi tractor blocks. This has enabled folks to find replacement Mitsubishi parts that fit their engines at a fraction of the Westerbeke prices.

Would people who know what blocks were marinized for the different sizes and makes of engines on our boats, and/or what after-market replacements will work for common items, please post here?

I’ll collect the information and turn it into a document and website feature for future owners’ benefit.

Thanks,

Excellent post. Also, those of us with Yanmars know that many many parts (gaskets, valve covers, etc) are available from Tractor Supply and other tractor and fork lift dealers who supply Yanmars used in those type of vehicles…

Bob,

The W13 is a Mitsubishi K2C, cast in big letters on the port side of the engine block.

I’ve given away the paper copies of my original Westerbeke manuals with the engine, but I think I still have the mitubishi ones on one of my computers. Exact same thing, except the name was changed.

Of interest, the Westerbeke sales flyers for this engine seemed to often get the bore and stroke wrong; there were three engines in this series K2A, and B and C.

I’ll see what I can find when I get back home.

I… Did not know that. Is there a cross-reference sheet somewhere that shows “xx marine engine is more or less equivalent to yy tractor engine”?

I believe the Westerbeke 27A is a Mitsubishi KE 150.

Not sure if there was more than one base used for the W27A - Bob notes the KE 150 above.
My understanding has been that the W27A is a Mitsubishi K4D block.

As with many things with boats, there may be some variances, possibly due to the year it was produced?

Attached is a photo of the block on my boat…

That’s interesting Peter - My 30U is a 1987 as well. I’ll look for the casting mark you showed. Which side is that on?
