Will need to run the reefing lines..

Hi Joe,
The manuals are available on the INA website in the members section. The info available is well worth the first year of membership.
Rob…
Seconding @Rob - the manuals are perfect for this. I suggest you print out a copy of the 22 manual to keep on your boat, too.
And also, you’ll find some useful photographs in the rigging section of the New Nonsuch Owners Quick Guide, available in the same location of the www.Nonsuch.org website as the original manuals.

Hi Joe,
Here is a photo of Soave’s upper choker line. It connects to a block and tackle that runs along her mast. ( HERE ) is where the block and tackle is anchored and led to a turning block on the mast collar.
My photos may not match exactly because Soave is a 33… but the general concept is similar.
Perhaps someone with a 22 will snap a few shots and post.
Smooth sailing…

Joseph: Note how we try and sign each post with our name, name of boat, what and where it lies. It helps in getting more responses. There may be someone with a 22 near you.

Hi Joe / Swee’Pea,
I’m answering this on the Discourse site because it’s easier to post photos. (Hopefully it’s easier to read them on your end, too!)
Rob (and I) have a different model of Nonsuch than yours, but I looked up your manual and it looks like the choker arrangement is the same, or at least really close. Here is an image that I snipped out of your manual and marked up a little. I hope this makes squinting at the faded lines a little easier. Explanation is below the image.
The choker consists of two lines. According to your manual they are called the Wishbone Choker and the Wishbone Choker Tackle.
The upper piece of line, the Wishbone Choker, starts at the block that I have marked with the pink arrow. That “pink block” probably looks something like one of these (possibly without the becket on the bottom, because your boat is lighter than mine so might not have as many turns in the tackle.) The top might have a “top loop” like on this one or a swivel becket or something. A place to attach a line at the top.
ORTo string your wishbone choker you attach a 9’6” piece of 3/8 polyester line (according to your manual) to the top of the block. On mine it is done with an eye splice. From there it goes up the starboard side of the mast and through the cheek block that I have marked with the green arrow. Go into the cheekblock from the rear because it next goes out to the block on the forward end of the wishbone (blue arrow.) The blue block turns it back towards the mast. You will secure the end of it to a padeye on the port side of the mast, just opposite of the cheek block. I marked the approximate position of that padeye with a red arrow.
That’s the upper part of the choker system.
The lower part of the system is a tackle arrangement. The pink block is the upper end of the tackle and I have marked the lower block of the tackle arrangement with an orange arrow. On my boat the orange block is a double block that looks like this:
That shackle on the bottom attaches to a loop on the starboard side of the tack collar near the base of the mast.
On my boat, the Wishbone Choker Tackle line starts at the becket (with a tight little eye splice) on the bottom of the pink block, goes down to the double block, back up and around the single block, back down and through the second sheave of the double block, then is routed back along the starboard side of the cabintop to the cockpit. There should be guides already in place for this.
If your lighter boat has fewer turns, it might have a single block with a becket at the orange arrow position. In that case your Wishbone Choker Tackle line would start at the becket (with a tight little eye splice) go up through the pink block, back down through the orange block and then gets routed back to the cockpit. You’ll have to figure it out by looking at it.
According to your manual, your Wishbone Choker Tackle line is 35’ of 5/16 polyester. I’m quoting these from the manual, but be sure and confirm them for yourself before spending real money because sailboat rope is kind of expensive and you don’t want to goof up.
When winding the line through the blocks, you will either be smarter than me or luckier than me or you will have to undo it and redo it at least once to get everything to lie flat and neatly against the mast.
Oh, about that blue block on the wishbone: Bob N. had a problem with his old one wearing out the attachment hole on the wishbone casting, so he lashed one on instead of using a shackle. He seems very pleased with how it turned out. So you might want to inspect the hole on your wishbone casting and see what condition it is in. If yours has a similar issue, then go to the INA google group website and try searching for his write-up.
I hope this was helpful. I am not a rigger, I’ve just finished replacing all of my running rigging and have just gone through it all, so it’s relatively fresh in my creaking old mind.
I’m not going to do a write-up like this for your reefing lines. It was easy for the choker because mine and yours are very similar. According to your manual your reefing lines are setup different than mine, so I’m not really qualified to try and explain them. Also I think I’ve read various discussions about changing the routing of the reefing lines on some of the other boat models, so I am really not able to even guess how yours are routed. Maybe they are stock, maybe not. Hopefully someone with a 22 will help you with that.
Good luck with all of this! I learned a lot just from replacing my lines, so you’re smart to do it yourself.
Joseph, You are missing a very detailed response to you question, which was posted on Discourse:

Amazing breakdown! Thank you!
I thought what we posted here got fed back to the google group. I guess I was confused.
Now you go put it in action and find out where I goofed. Be sure and let me know and I’ll try to fix it here for posterity.
No, because Google mangles the From there is no way to prevent at least one ping-pong of forwards from forwards, and the risk of a runaway stream as you try to figure out how to figure out how to control things.
There are over 100 people on Discourse. We can use postings like yours to try to motivate the rest.
Brian gave you a really top-notch run-down, Joe.
One minor point of clarification. The green arrow in his annotated picture is pointing to the turning block on the mast, which is actually a cheek block. Where he had to put that arrow unavoidably placed it near the words, “DOUBLE BLOCK,” which might be confusing. However, that’s referring to the hanging double block on the starboard underside of the boom, not to any of the blocks involved in the choker arrangement.
