Drive Strut

Where can I find a replacement shaft strut for 324? Thinking the hull and strut types are same for the 30’ hulls . It’s offset so it can slide past the rudder. Thanks for any comments in advance!

I'm sure this was discussed several times, Bill. Try going to the website and do a "Strut" search.

Will do joe. Thanks

If helpful, you can also download a diagram of the Nonsuch 30 Strut drilling dimensions from the INA’s Nonsuch.org web site. From the home page, use the “Members” menu to get to “Nonsuch Shop Drawings” and on that page, select, “Nonsuch 30 Drawing PDFs.” If you scroll through that page, you’ll find a shop drawing titled, “N30 Strut Drilling.pdf”

Got it. Buck Algunkqun makes them brand new! Money worth spent. Jim N33/41 Arawak

No luck with Buck Algonquin Anyone replace theirs? Was it offset?

No one with a 30 has replied so I had a look. From photos and drawing of a 30U hull I have, the shaft is not offset. It appears to be directly in line with the keel/rudder.
Same photos and drawing of my 26 and the shaft is obviously off to starboard.
There was some discussion of the 30 having propwalk. Offsetting the shaft was to counteract this. Maybe they corrected it in the 324.
Also on the 30, because it is a V drive, the prop and shaft are further forward and it looks like there is plenty of room to remove the shaft even with the rudder in the way. Your Yanmar? may be all different.

FYI. When I converted BIANKA to electric propulsion I had to cut down the prop shaft. I was able to remove the shaft with the prop attached without hitting or removing the rudder.

I didn’t reply because I wasn’t sure. Thinking back to last week when I painted my prop and shaft prior to launch, it was in line.

Thanks Tom for the insight! Probably a prop wash component. I’m just going to bite the bullet and have a “one off” made. Pricy but this boat deserves it. The old one is too scarred to fool with. Best

Hi,

In Sidney we have a prop guy who is genius with metal. I have seen him bring back a number of bronze props from the dead. If you can find someone similar they may be able to save your prop strut for less money than new.

Where did you haul your boat out in Sydney?

Hi Howard,

We have used Van Isle Marina where we moor the boat. Nice clean yard, close to 2 chandleries and a number of service techs. I like the remote control trailer type lift and the crew are great.

Also hauled at WestPort marina and Canoe Cove. Both further from downtown but well equipped.

I’m going to need fiberglass work, and the mast hauled out for some work. Can you recommend all 3 of those yards?

Hi Howard,

I would recommend Blackline at Canoe Cove.
The rigging manager is Brent Jacobi at Blackline Marine Inc. 250-656-6616. email brent@blacklinemarine.com www.blacklinemarine.com

They are expensive but have the most experience with Nonsuch rigs and have a good fibreglass shop. They have worked on carbon fibre masts before. They are busy so i would send Brent an email outlining what you have in mind and you can then talk to him by phone and set up a time for the work to be done.

Thanks, I’ve heard of them, and will give Brent a call. I just hope the Canadian border opens up soon.

We hope so too.

I would also recommend Blackliine. They did an extensive mast refit for us last year, including the wishbone support system. I would also suggest rebedding the mast collar as we discovered it was leaking. They do very good work and are experienced with Nonsuches.
