Mike Quill, the original rigger for the Hinterhoeller factory and long-time Nonsuch community friend, has agreed to provide free initial consulting for INA members with mast or rigging questions about their boats. This will preserve access to his skills and expertise for all of us even as he contemplates retiring from active service as a rigger.
This service is for INA members in good standing only with questions about their boats. We ask you to understand that it is for initial consultation only. Mike still has the right to request additional direct payments at his discretion for follow up on complex questions or services that require special effort.
Mike’s been there for all of us since the beginning, is well-known and oft-cited among members, and has been a sponsor of the INA for decades. We can only repeat how pleased we are to announce this arrangement.
To use this service, log on to the https://www.Nonsuch.org website with your membership log-in and password information, click on the MEMBERS tab, and select MAINTENANCE.
This takes you to the Maintenance web page. In addition to still being able to scroll and find our large historical collection of documents related to Nonsuch maintenance, you’ll find the new link to the page for accessing Mike’s assistance.
Clicking on the button should bring up a draft email on your preferred email system, addressed to Rigger@Nonsuch.org. You can then edit the body of that message to send in your question. After it’s submitted, Mike will reply and all further interactions will go directly between you and him.
I hope that he is not bothered with some of the mundane questions that appear on this listserve which can normally be answered by looking in the owner’s manual. RTFM as we say in the Navy.

This is great news! Thank you Mike Quill for offering this, and thank you to the Nonsuch co-Presidents for making this happen!!!
A big win for all of us - and as Joe pointed out, let’s be considerate to MIke and do a little research prior to peppering him with questions that already been answered on our fantastic discussion group.

When I bought Moustaches in 2012, I felt that there was a bit of play in the mast joint. My (very) cautious partner, Sandra, told me that she would not set foot on the boat unless I had that repaired or checked out. She didn’t want the mast “falling down on her”.
Mike Quill re-did the joint, advising me that the repair will last a lifetime. I bet he’s right. He didn’t stop there, though. He ran a new main halyard and replaced the boom hanger cables and topping lift steel cables with somewhat thicker cables. He re-did the lights and all the wiring including the antenna cable.
Essentially, I received a new mast but with some over-spec additions. He’d given me an original estimate over the phone and stuck to it and didn’t charge me for most of the other goodies.
As an owner’s group, we are TRULY lucky to be able to have him for a resource. And, he’s a lovely guy to talk to, to boot.
