If you’re receiving the discussion group by email and want to start a new topic, here’s how to do it:
Address an email to INA -Nonsuch-Discussion-Group****@googlegroups.com and make the subject of the message be the topic you want to address.
If you are receiving the digest and want to respond to a topic you saw within the digest, you can simply reply to the message. HOWEVER, be aware that if you do so, your response won’t appear under that topic. Instead, it will appear under the title of the entire digest, e.g., “Re: Member requesting to join INA Nonsuch Discussion Group” or “Re: Discussion Group Digest.” Not everyone looks at those, because they tend to assume that messages posted there are aimed at the moderators.
I think, but have not personally tested, that trying to reply to a thread via email using the name of the thread will start a new thread with the same name. I believe that to get your reply into the original thread, you need to change the subject of your reply message to start with “RE:” to indicate that it’s a reply rather than a new thread, e.g., “RE: whatever that thread was called”.
