Interest sought -Small Nonsuch get together

Morning , trying to get a feel for interest in a get together in the end of March this year for a late Saturday afternoon get together. In particular , Saturday March 28 , 3-5 pm at the Post Road Diner / Norwalk Ct.

Central location for West Long Island Sound and inviting for the East Long Island Sound to attend as well. Reasonable in price and separate checks for the budget conscious .

Basically an opportunity to share handshakes , ideas and projects. There might even be an update and more info on the Nonsuch Summer Cruise . In speaking to the manager at this diner , Rita stated she would section off a part of the diner for us specifically.

So - what say you ? Please share your interest level! Regards , Gary / Aloki / Oyster Bay

I would be interested.

Irish Mist will be represented!

I’m interested Gary, thanks

Sounds great!

Susan and I should be able to make it - It’s in the calendar.

So far eight fellow Nonsuchers have expressed interest . I’ll contact the diner and ask them to expect 8-12 people that day. Maybe think about what you’d like to share with the group. Figure during dessert ? Best , Gary

Hi Gary,

I’m checking with a few of my Nonsuch buddies at SYC in New London.

Post Road Diner, located at

312 Connecticut Ave in Norwalk, CT, is a popular, nostalgic 50s-style spot offering a vast menu of American diner classics, including notable egg dishes, breakfast items, and comfort food like turkey and roast beef platters. Known for large portions, quick service, and a cozy, retro atmosphere, it is highly rated for both quality and value.
Sounds like Nonsuch is on the menu. I’m just getting over back surgery but may try limping up there if I can.

Hi Gary,

Steve Samelot and I are both planning to attend. We both have 22’s.

Dick Barthel

I’ll be there.

Many thanks to Gary for organizing.

Thanks for posting the address Brian. Saved me doing it. I called and alerted Rita at Post Road Diner to expect (current tally) 12-15 Nonsuch owners for -

Saturday , March 28 , 2026 between 3 to 5 pm for late lunch / early dinner.

She was excited to welcome us. Please be aware there will be a fixed 20% gratuity added to each check given the reservation. As we get closer to the date I’d like to get a more accurate tally to pass along.

So what Nonsuch info will you share ? Projects or sail plans and ideas . I might discuss the very basic concept of upgrading to Lithium batteries for the house bank. ( 10/15 min time limit on each topic might keep things moving) best , Gary

Hi Gary, et al…

I am planning on installing 2 electric bilge pumps this spring (have only had the original manual pump for 39 years), so that might be a topic.

Also of interest may be anchor/riding sails or windlass installation (though most probably already have a windlass installed).

Peter

Thanks Peter - maybe post photos of the subject in advance so we could refer to them at lunch? I have a small bilge pump but have been toying with a ā€˜trash pump’ which could handle a larger amount.

Hi Gary -

Not sure what photos to post as I only have parts at the moment. Install won’t take place until April or May, depending on air temps.

I could try to put together a written plan of what/why I’ve decided on the setup I am going to install, perhaps with a few images of specific parts… if you believe that may be beneficial

U know what they say - a picture is worth 1k words. Lay it out on a table in some sort of mechanical order. I’m trying to do that with my lithium house bank upgrade presently.

Above is a very simple schematic for the lithium battery upgrade planned for Aloki. The goal is to have an isolated start battery bank and a 400Ahr house bank that will be easily & quickly charged via my 100 A alternator.

To follow the drawing pls disregard the negative ( black line) side of the drawing. If you follow only the red line with arrows you’ll be able to trace the current flow from engine through the start battery then through the dc to dc charger and into the house bank. From there to the breaker panel powering the boat systems. Lithium batteries are very efficient and charge very quickly ( cutting down on engine time). Lighter and more ā€˜durable’ over time. There are details related to the install ( fuses , simple battery switch, solar , battery charger , cable size and lengths and balancing) that are too much info for this post.

Gary,
Is the ā€œintelligenceā€ for charging embedded in the DC2DC charger or does the charger need to interact with the monitor gearing ?

Thanks for the easy to follow diagram.

Rob…

Hi Rob

I quite sure the charger and monitoring gear work together to maintain an appropriate amperage to the batteries. There are thermal monitors on the batteries as well to prevent a runaway scenario. Hope this helps.
