Does anyone have a picture of the mast step with the mast out? I’m having mine unstepped and it would be nice to know what it looks like inside.

Thanks for that Bob! The ‘fix’ shows an image of the step.
However, this begs a next question I was hoping to answer. What are the bolts that are into the mast just above the mast step? See photo:
Doesn’t answer your question about the bolts, but here’s a pic from the N26U manual about its mast step. It shows that there’s a “heel” casting fitting into the bottom of the mast that in turn goes into the mast step. It doesn’t show bolts, but it seems to me that there might be some to ensure that the mast doesn’t rotate on the heel or in the step.

Bob Neches is correct. I pull my mast every year and the bolts on the bottom of the mast hold the casting in place.

Wow. That is… not like my mast bases at all. I’ll see if I can load the pictures up tonight. Bottom line, my mast base is octagonal like the picture above, but there is a saddle right down the middle. My mast heel casting has a corresponding cutout in the base to register the rotation of the mast (within a couple of degrees). I have tie-down straps (two each), but they are straps, not wire, and they screw into the mast. Finally, my mast bases do not have a clamp or jump pin or lug or whatever that step 2 is, but rather has four screws that don’t quite penetrate the mast heel that seem to be there to center the mast heel and keep it from moving around.
As I say, I’ll see if I can remember to post some pictures tonight.

Hi Bob, here is a shot of our step with the mast out. I had not had a chance to do the clean up yet. You will notice that one of the centring bolts would not come out and was cut off. This was reworked before reinstallation of the mast.

Hi Joe,
Yes thanks, the mast was last stepped prior to my ownership. Was properly protected with the reinstallation.
I also re-bedded the partner while the mast was out which stopped that leak.

OK, so it has been a day or two. Here’s my mast base. Both masts have the same base and corresponding mast heel. (This is the “mast room,” freshly painted with Petit bilge paint. It got cleaned up before the mast went in, I promise.

This may be too late to be of any help but the step on Challenge is different than Serenity’s. Here is a picture of the step and mast base taken when I was looking at purchasing the boat. I have higher resolution photos taken last winter but can’t seem to locate them. Hopefully this is timely enough to be of use.
