I need to replace the steaming and navigation lights on the mast of my Nonsuch 30U. Does anyone have any suggestions for new lights based on your own experience doing the same?
Thanks,

Hi Mike,
My first inclination is to use replacements that are the same as the ones you are retiring to simplify installation.
Soave has a Signal Mate anchor light. I believe the running is also Signal Mate. I’m not sure about her steaming light. I was stunned by the price, but considering the effort required to replace, I guess quality is important.
Funny Story, last season the boatyard rigger tested the light before stepping Soave’s mast and reported the anchor light was not working. I was on a tight schedule and needed the boat launched, so I told him we’d deal with it later. (I also always resist the temptation to let the yard do things I can do myself… to control costs ) . When we got the boat to her slip, the light worked fine.
This year I did the mast prep and at first the anchor light didn’t light. Turns out the anchor light has a photocell the won’t let the light light in the daytime ( a very nice feature if you have limited power). You need to cover the photocell if you want to test the light in daylight.
This will be our 3rd season with Soave… still learning.

Hi Mike - I used these on NS36 Fortunate:
Steaming light: This is a combo anchor/steaming lamp by Signalmate. It was the only LED version I found that was certified USCG/ ABYC A-16 & 72 COLREGS.
Nav Light on mast: I had to make a starboard mounting plate to place this in the same location on the mast as the original Aqua Signal.
Good luck!
I’m pretty sure Bob’s referring to StarBoard ( The Original Marine Grade HDPE | Marine Fabrication Polymer Sheets ) the material rather than starboard the direction.

Everyone,
Thank you for your comments. I already have a Signal Mate anchor light that I like a lot. Therefore, I decided to purchase a navigation light made by Signal Mate that has a mast mount option. I will post a photo when I am done. Not cheap but good quality.
