Throttle creep

For Jim Lorriman and others,

Quick fix…remove compass…mark it to maintain proper orientation.

Remove throttle handle
loosen screw on top of the fitting…don’t lose it down the binnacle
push throttle shaft in until you can see the nylon bushing. .notice mine had a hole worn into it from prior tightening
rotate bushing to new surface
push throttle shaft back to normal position
put handle on, start engine
tighten screw until there is no creep
reinstall compass
find a new use for the bungee cord.

Jim,
You'll need to adjust the throttle stop screw on the engine to set idle
just a tad higher to prevent inadvertent shut off.

I happened to be adjusting the throttle friction yesterday. The throttle friction application method is different on my boat. On the throttle shaft fitting in the pedestal, there is a separate hex head bolt (arrow in the photo) which is used to compress the bushing,
In Joe’s photo there is a hole in this fitting which might be for this bolt.

As I get deeper into my second season with this boat, nothing surprises me any longer.
Just replaced the boogered-up original raw water pump, and did heart surgery on the heat exchanger. My yard was amazed that the w-21 hadn’t cooked itself the exchanger was so clogged.

Mike: Are you trying to adjust the idle?? If so, use the idle stop screw located on the injection pump to set it around 850 rpm. If you can’t find it, with the engine off, have someone move the throttle until you see something move. The engine manual should show you how to make that adjustment
