Upgrading Toilet on my Nonsuch 30U

Trying to figure out which marine toilet manufacturers offer the best choice for my ultra - thinking about - sizes, floor bolts etc

If you are going to stick with a non-composting toilet I would strongly recommend a Blakes Lavac. They are simple, dependable and the pumping system is durable.

My vote would be the Raritan PHII. The handle can be mounted on either side. It is more money but also more robust than a Jabsco. The handle design has more leverage than the Jabsco. In 2000 (I know 20 years ago but not a lot has changed with regards to manual toilets) Practical Sailor pick it as the Best Buy over 8 other manual toilets.

I second going for Blakes Lavac. Put one in BIANKA ten years ago and never regretted it. Simplicity and ease of maintenance make it a great upgrade IMO.

has anyone gone the fresh water route?

I am shopping for an Ultra 30 at the moment, but I have experience with the fresh water aspect. I keep my Pearson 30 on Cayuga Lake in NY. The Marina has no flow. There is one way in/out, with no creeks feeding into the marina. After a year, the odor from flushing was enough to make one gag. I put a 7 gallon jug with a pump next to the toilet and we flush with that. Odor was gone in a month. It’s never going to be perfect, but it is much better.

FATE came with an electric fresh water flush head (Thetford Newport) when I bought her. Head itself was so-so but the fresh water flush was great. I’ve been wanting to replace the head but keep the fresh water flush. In fact, I had no options since the thru hull for the original water intake had been removed and glassed over. I just had the Raritan Fresh Head installed. It’s manual but uses fresh water for flushing. No experience with it yet but it has a good reputation. Will let you know. (I wanted to install the electric Raritan Elegance but couldn’t make it fit.)

I have a fresh water Dometic Vacu Flush on my 30U. Works great, no smells. As close to a land-based toilet I’ve seen.

I’m just in the process of chasing a small vacuum leak that causes it to run more than it should in between flushes. Just some rubber seals that are overdue for replacing.

I’ve been very happy with my cost effective Raritan PHII. Fits fine and is easily maintained.

Thanks for all the help - winter project for sure

I just use my shower hose to flush instead of the pedal on my W-C. Then pump as usual. Freshwater…from my tanks.
