About the Nonsuch Parts Fabrication category

This group and topic category is for volunteers and INA members in need who are interested in sharing information needed to get hard-to-buy parts fabricated.

We are engaged in creating and maintaining an INA information repository on reproducing hard-to-buy Nonsuch parts and creating useful new items.

The repository is intended to provide at least the following services:

  1. a place for producers of part designs, specs, and how-to files can post them, so that other INA members can find and download them in order to make a needed boat part
  2. a place where people can either volunteer to do the fabrication, or alternatively provide links to commercial facilities where a member can pay to have the part made
  3. a place where INA members in need of a part not listed in the repository can post a request for volunteers to create the needed design information, and other INA members can vote for the ones they too want most
  4. a place where people who use designs and fabricators from the repository can provide feedback on how they worked out

Under this topic, I’m including:

  • Getting part design information by any legal means: existing public material, 3D scans, re-engineering, CAD designs…
  • Fabricating parts by any appropriate and feasible means: 3D printing, casting, milling, molding, cutting, drilling, papier mache (well, ok, maybe not that), etc., …
