Air Conditioning

Hi All,
There’s nothing that can slow your mojo down faster than 100% humidity at 84F.
Those of us that face the ephemeral tropic season (July/ Aug) in the NE and Great Lakes can now take solace.
Here’s a simple story and simple solution for blistering dockside heat.

What: 84F outside @100% r.h., vs 64F inside at 50% r.f.

How: Canadian Tire, $299 (CDN) 5000 BTU Comfee mobile A/C

Unit runs at 7 amps leaving another 7 for my battery charger, lights, fridges and TV

$299 CDN for the Full Monty. what more can you ask?

Downsides?

  • yes, you have to have shore power
  • takes 1 hr to make it cold
  • need a cockpit window like the classics have…
Ice and rum will get you half way there…now you have the rest of the solution.

Cheers,

I went whole hog years ago when I bought MOUSTACHES, my NS22. Same as you, it runs on shore power and you can freeze meat in the cabin in about 15 minutes. It sits in the companionway and entering the cabin involves stepping over the unit and onto the stairs that have been extended. No one knows it’s there cuz it is masquerading as a cockpit “table”.

It cost $165 CAD a while ago at RONA and is an Uber Haus (bizarre name) 4000 BTU unit that was the smallest window A/C thaat I could find. Thank heaven for it. I’ve attached photos.
