Anchor Rode, Fasteners, length type diameter

Hi All-

Getting our 30C ready for season -

Replacing anchor rode and chain and looking for suggestions. Ours is rusted and worn and making a mess all over the deck when used...but the anchor is good!

What diameter, length, and size shackle or spinners do you all suggest?

Was going to take a ride to Defenders next week and there is a lot to pick from! I am a little “Deer into Headlights” - this is an important decision! I like the anchor it seems to work well and the is a lot of chain that I am sure has a lot to do with that-it just leaves rust on the deck that I want to avoid in future.

Ps it is not a windless situation it is a manual labor setup.

We do have a windlass but, FWIW, we have two rodes. The primary one is 50’ of ⅜ G4 chain spliced to ~230’ of 8-plait nylon. The secondary is 50’ of G4 chain spliced to ~230’ of 3-strand nylon. We seldom anchor in more than 30’ of water so the length of our rodes are sufficient to give us ~7 to 1 scope in up to 40’ of water.

Thanks-
I know we will need more that 50’ as the water is deep in these parts! I appreciate the reply and info!! Will keep in mind!

Forgot to mention , shackles should be properly sized, Crosby makes good ones. Avoid stainless anchor shackles.

Thanks Thor - I will look for those!
