Announcement for INA Update readers and contributors

We’re sad to have to announce that our longstanding editor for the INA Update, Phil Wagner, has taken ill and is not expected to come back and continue.

The periodic Update newsletter has been published for over 40 years (note the full archive available to INA members at www.Nonsuch.org). It has always been one of INA’s more impactful services. Phil has been a huge contributor to that, having generously chipped in to create nearly a quarter of all those issues – a total of 29 issues over almost ten years. Furthermore, out of enjoyment of the process and appreciation for the group,he continued doing so long, long after selling his own Nonsuch.

Meanwhile, we need to fill the gap that Phil leaves behind. We have a short-term team of volunteers who are working on getting the upcoming issue out. However, we are very much in need of both a long-term volunteer with skills and interests in publication layout software, as well as one interested in editing/copychecking responsibilities. Please drop a note to President@Nonsuch.org and/or PastPresident@Nonsuch.org if you’re interested in discussing either role.

To help improve the continuity of our publication efforts, we have created a new email address for everyone to send in your stories from now on: Communications@Nonsuch.org.

Unfortunately, because of the circumstances of Phil’s change in health, we don’t have access to the current batch of submissions. We ask those of you who previously sent submissions to Phil Wagner to also please resend those materials to Communications@Nonsuch.org as soon as possible.

We’re glad we had a chance to tell him how much his work was appreciated by us all, via a recent honorary plaque and other interactions the INA Board has had with him. We hope you all will use responses to this post to offer any thoughts you’d like to have shared with Phil and his family.

(Posting in my capacity as INA Past-President and acting Update editor)

My heartfelt thoughts are with Phil and his family at this difficult time. Many grateful thanks for his dedicated service to the Nonsuch sailing community.

Sad to say, Phil Wagner passed away within weeks of our previous announcement about his health.

There will be an in memorium page about him in the next issue of the INA Update.

If you’d like any comments of yours about him to appear in that page, or have any other material to submit for the upcoming INA Update issue, please send it by email to Communications@Nonsuch.org by June 21.
