I’m looking to replace the anode on my Volvo Penta sail drive. I have a 1979 30C, hull #18. I’m pretty sure the sail drive is original to the boat. My supplier (recommended by Mike Quill) is asking me for the “type” of sail drive. I don’t know what to tell him. The serial # on it starts with 110… which I thought meant it was just a 110 model. Does anyone know how to identify the type?
While I’m at it: I sail in fresh water and plan to get an aluminum anode. Agreed?

I think you’ll want magnesium for fresh water, if you can get it.

I don’t know about Volvo sail drives of your vintage, but I used to have a pair of them on a previous boat built in 2003. My recollection is that the drive housing in the water was aluminum. If so, I wonder whether putting an aluminum anode on it works.

I have a 1980 Hinterhoeller Niagara 35 which had the Volvo MD2C engine and 110S saildrive. I replaced the engine and still have the saildrive. The housing for this saildrive is aluminum so I think you’ll want a less noble anode. You should be able to get the correct anode from a Volvo marine distributor.
The original drive train in the early 30’s was a volvo Penta MD11c and a 110s saildrive. For fresh water you should use a magnesium anode. They are available online from Marine Outfitters in Ontario. the anode is one piece so the propeller needs to be removed to install the anode.
