My Nonsuch is a N 33-41# think I can see two hallyard sheeves at the top of the mast but how do you rig the second one there are no extra exit ?
Who is this? Which boat? And where?
I’m interested in a 2nd halyard too.

I think you should contact Mike Quill for advice.
He might suggest a halyard exit on the starboard side of the mast. If not, the tail can come down the exterior front of the mast. My friend with #44 has the second halyard external.

My 33 has two Internal halyards with exits both on the port side of the mast. If I recall correctly, they are about 2 ft apart vertically and separated horizontally by about 3 or 4 inches. The second sheave and exit were there when I bought the boat. Mike Quill threaded the second halyard for me.

It’s a N33 hull 41 Arawak James MOORES. My concern is if you loose a halyard On a long trip at sea your screwed so my question is there seems to be two shives for halyards at the top of my mast so to install a additional halyard I don’t see a place for it to come out. I am not talking about the flag Halyard on the starboard side.Has anyone ever rigged this up for off shore sailing. Thanks

Are there two foot blocks stacked at the base of the mast to lead both halyards aft?
When I was contemplating doing some more extensive sailing a few years ago I purchased a low friction halyard sheave from Murray Cressman. As many of you have discovered, I found that I already had 2 halyard sheaves. I installed the new one anyway but it froze up and I eventually reinstalled the original sheave. I purchased a Schaefer halyard exit fitting and a turning block from Mike Quill and installed them on the starboard side of the mast, mirroring the port side setup. I was nervous about cutting the halyard exit slot in the mast because of the well known issues with our masts but Mike Quill (I think) assured me that a properly proportioned and executed slot at the level of the one on the port side would be fine and it has been. I have kept a messenger line rigged on the starboard side halyard sheave ever since. Naturally, I have never had to use it.
