Blue stripe chipped at transom .

Hi everybody. Someone splashed some white paint on to my transom . Got it off the white portion but a chip peeled off the blue stripe. Any ideas on how to fix this ? Hopefully without notice the repair . Picture attached.

Mike,
no one seems to be interested in tackling your question. Unlike the others I have never let ignorance stop me from jumping in with an answer.

I suggest that you use some rubbing?polishing compound to clean up the blue around the area as much a possible. This will give you a start for a colour match. Several manufactures make/sell gel coat touch up kits that you can mix different colours to try to match you existing colour. Evercoat and Rayplex are two such companies. MagicEzy is a Canadian company that sells a product that is suppose to be even easier to use. Tape some cling wrap over the blue near the area where the repair will be. Then start mixing gel coat, on the cling wrap, without harden until you get a match that you are satisfied with. Keep track of how much of each colour you use. Then mix up a batch with hardener and apply according to the instructions. You will not get an invisible patch but it should be good enough that it is not visible to a casual observer standing 5 feet away. Mixing different colours to get a better colour match with MagicEzy can quickly become expensive. http://magicezycanada.com/?page_id=42

Another option is to cover the area with fairing compound and then paint to match.

A third option is to smooth out the entire stripe and reaping the whole thing. That way you won’t have colour match issues. Most people are happy with the results they get from rolling and tipping out the paint which is much less work than preparing for a spray job.
