Hello, I’m wanting to replace my head cabinet door hinge with a lift-off type hinge. Often when trying to work on any plumbing, electrical, or other projects, I have to remove the cabinet door for easier access. I plan to replace the hinge with a “lift-off” type hinge. So, I’m wondering if anyone else has done this, and if so, what hinge you used and where you got it.

That’s a great idea! It’s so hard getting into that cabinet with the door swung open in the opposite direction! Let us know what you end up with -

I installed liftoffs on my head under sink cabinet door last season. It’s a must do for anyone who does not have the spine of a snake.
The plates and pin of the hinges ( I got mine on Amazon ) are thicker than the originals. 1/16” as opposed to 1/32” on the original. You will need to recut the mounting slot in the door so that the plates are parallel when the door is closed. Also the hinges I bought were longer than the original so the slots will need to be longer. Mine came with 3 screws in each half which I replaced with good SS screws. Be sure to install the assembled hinge flush with the door edge with the pin pointing up. Try to favor the outside of the door to make it easier to drop on the pins installed on the cabinet side of hinge. This effort will save your back when you’re winterizing your head among other tasks.

For those who are interested, I wasn’t finding what I wanted on Amazon Canada, so looked elsewhere on the web. I found two USA hinge sources, Hinge Outlet (stainless) and RW Rope (brass) but both were kind of pricey when including currency exchange and shipping to Canada. I then found the same stainless hinges in Canada at Grainger, so ordered these online for pickup at their local store. These hinges are from Japan, made by Sugatsune part number KN-50R/SS, where the “R” denotes a right-hand hinge. Pick -up is next week, I hope it fits. I will make a follow-up post once installed.
