I’m writing this both as INA Co-President and a designated moderator of the INA Nonsuch Google Discussion Group, in response to a recent post and multiple complaints received about it.
I’d like to remind everyone that the rules for this forum are stated in the Use Guide. One of the primary rules is:
"It is very important to keep the level and tone of discourse civil and focused on Nonsuch and Nonsuch related nautical matters. …"
In particular, just because this is a sailing forum does not mean that “salty” language is acceptable. To some extent, what is and isn’t should be clear from responses received to a post. If you see a post that has gotten multiple negative responses, please learn from it and don’t use that language.
As a rule of thumb, choose a different word – or topic – if what you’re typing and sending is not how you’d talk with a religious leader you don’t know, an officer of the court, or people you’ve never met before but who you’d like to approve of you marrying their child.
Beyond that, let’s please remember that:

there are no dumb questions on this forum

there are many body parts for which there are derogative terms – and all of those body parts can be found on someone we care about and shouldn’t insult

People of many different skill/interest/wealth levels own Nonsuches, and no one type is better than the others
I’m on my seventh boat, so I’ve seen my share of boat owner forums. Ours is far and away the nicest. Let’s please keep it that way.
