Dorade Vent (s)

I have one Dorade vent located over the head. It is old, plastic and in need of replacement. I don’t feel a breeze through the opening even if there is a substantial wind. I am wondering if I should replace it with a larger one or even add a second one on the other side of the cabin. So I am asking the group. Do these vents work solo or do I really need a second one to get air movement?

Dorades do work when the wind blows, not great but over time do their job. We replaced our scoops because some unnamed previous owner had used 4200 to keep them in place. Now we turn them into the breeze, or the trades when at dock. If you have two then face them opposite (our doors have louvered vents so we face both the same way) so one sucks and one blows. They don’t suck, metaphorically.

Thanks for your reply.

I am enjoying getting to know my boat and this is one of the vexing questions.

Our cowl is stainless but otherwise we have the same set-up. Such vents have been used on boats for a long time so they must work but, if I added ventilation to our boat, I think I’d use one or more of the solar mushroom style ventilators that are now available.
