What's this called, and where can I get one?

I need one of these, and I don’t know what they’re called, whether anyone makes them, or whether I’ll have to fabricate my own.

Any advice, pointers to sources of supply, …?

Thanks!

Bob -

If this helps, on my NS22, the solitary dorade that brings air into the head is mounted on “one of these” (whatever they are called). See attachment.

Bob,
If you are referring to the white piece below the stainless vent, I think it is a custom made fibreglass piece from Hinterhoeller. Made to match deck curvature and vent hole diameter.

On my boat the Paloma heater has removed by PO, and I wanted to get rid of the old chimney vent. After removing the stainless vent piece I discovered white base was fiberglass. I spent some time searching the web, but never found anything like it. I decided to leave it in place and put a plexiglass disk on top of it attached with 3M 4000.

If you need one, perhaps a local 3D printer place can make you one? Or make one as mold to make a fiberglass one? Consider 3D printer made one for UV performance. I also recall it was very securely attached to the deck with screws and maybe 5200? I had no luck trying to remove it with moderate force, and decided to leave it be in case I created a new problem.

Thanks, Ernie and Don. I’m taking the advice and have sent a message to Mike Quill.

Upon closer inspection, I’m now wondering if it isn’t some kind of semi-custom dorade box because I’ve realized it has weep holes on the lower side of the base. I haven’t tried to remove it to see what it looks like inside.

In truth, I’m perfectly happy with it. My interest is actually that I’m replacing my dodger and the current dodger has some complex flaps because it has to go around the teak dorade box that also appears in the picture. So, as part of rethinking the dodger design, I’m looking for alternatives to that teak dorade box.

Update: as per Mike Quill, “Both the teak dorade box and the vent stack were made in house at Hinterhoeller. I don’t carry either one of them. The dorade box was solid teak not ply and may be copied by a carpenter who has access to teak. The fiberglass stack might be duplicated if you can find a small shop that can use it to create a new mold.”

Vetus Marine has similar dorade type bases but not angled from what I see. These dorado vents are popular on Swans. If you were to make an angled teak base for the Vetus dorade, might suit your needs. Good luck.

Leave it to Vetus to charge out-of-this world prices. They learned from Atkins and Hoyle.

$138.00 (USD) for a plastic base - over $400.00 for a stainless steel one. The nerve, honestly …

I’d re-think this one, Bob.

Bob,
I have one that came off of our 26U when we removed the water heater. The flue is still attached even though I removed all of the screws. I do not consider it to be in very good shape, but you can have it if you want it. I am afraid that shipping might cost more than it is worth.
