Ep carry electric paddle

Saw a marina neighbor with one and he recommended it.
Thinking of replacing my 2hp Honda.
Any thoughts?

Although I have an ElectricYacht QT 10 in my Nonsuch 26, I don’t have specific knowledge about EP Carry. It looks very promising on its website.

I had a larger Torqueedo installation on a Yankee Dolphin 24, now approaching ten years ago. I found it very easy to use, but didn’t come away feeling deep brand loyalty; the tech’s moving too fast.

I’ve found a lot of useful information on a website I monitor called, Plugboats.com. Here’s a link to their list of small electric outboard manufacturers:
Electric Outboards: Less than 5 kW - Plugboats

Among the electric outboard manufacturers there, the ones that jumped out at me as competitors to EP Carry were:

I based this on whether they had products for dinghies vs. sailboats, packages and prices roughly comparable to EP Carry, U.S. prices and representation, and non-Chinese origin. (Based on concerns about trade war future implications for support.)

There isn’t enough information provided on Plugboats to really compare them. It’d be a matter of reviewing their websites and seeing what meets your needs.

I hope others will post, and that you’ll report back on what you finally decide.

I have used an EP Carry for several years with my 8 foot Porta bote dingy. Great little motor lightweight including battery. Using it more these days as recent shoulder arthritis can make rowing a bit of a pain. Easy to stow in the cockpit locker and quiet compared to the Honda BP2 that it replaced. No need for oil or gas onboard too.

Thanks

Great idea on the EP motor. I’d need an extension on the tiller arm to use on my wood pram dink for weight distribution.

@ Mike, is your dink registered or does an electric motor exempt that NY requirement.

No it still needs to be registered with the DMV. BTW I find the tiller a little bit too long for my porta bote compared to the Honda. It hits my back when seated. I think you can also get a custom length tiller made from EP Carry.
