The basic idea is the same for all riding sails but the details of the boat matter. What you want to do is have the ‘luff’ aft and the ‘clew’ going forward. If possible you can hank the sail to the topping lift, attach the ‘sheet’ to a mid deck cleat and hoist with the halyard. On Nonsuch we have a tackle at the bottom of the topping lift and can’t reach above this, but we do have two halyards. We use one halyard as a sort of backstay and hank the riding sail. We use the other halyard to hoist the sail. We also have a line at the ’tack’ of the riding sail so we adjust the height of the sail. We position the sail vertically so the sheet going forward leads correctly with equal tension on the foot and leech. This photo gives you the general idea. It does not totally eliminate tacking at anchor but dramatically reduces it.
