Please join fellow Nonsuch sailors for a day of sea stories and camaraderie. Raft up will begin to form late morning ( weather permitting) and break up near sundown. It’s a BYOE ( bring your own everything) and tour the rafted Nonsuches sharing ideas and laughs. Stake boat will monitor vhf ch 11 for info and assistance after 9 am on Saturday. Weather was great. We enjoyed 10-14 knot NNE breeze to and from the anchorage, mostly sunny with temps in the 70’s.
We welcomed a new Nonsuch owner to the WLIS Fleet , Earl Ott with Early Gay ( formerly No Limits )
Soave didn’t need to travel far to the raft-up, her home port is CPYC.
Aloki sailed from Oyster Bay and enjoyed a stop in Zieglers cove.
With NNE wind Cockenoe Island was not an idea anchorage, but we toughed it out. We anchored in about 12’ of water about 40 yards from shore. For most of the day there were only a few larger boats sharing the spot. Smaller boats flocked to the inner cove.
Conversations focused on all things sailing, ranging from the scoring debacle in this year’s Newport/Bermuda race to best cockpit cushions… with lots in-between.
We’re looking forward to our next WLIS event October 24 at the Doyle Sail Loft in Mamaroneck. This will be a deep dive into sails for Nonsuch boats.
Looking ahead to the 2027 sailing season, we’d like to hear ideas for locations for future raft-ups, what’s your favorite anchorage on LIS ?
Any other ideas for workshops and or Nonsuch activities ?
Fun fact, I learned yesterday, not all Nonsuch boats use stainless bands to reinforce the sail-track at the bottom of the mast. I described replacing Soave’s bands to Gary and he pointed out that Aloki doesn’t have them.
