oil change

Hi
I am a new owner of a classic 26 with the Westerbeke 21 hp engine.
Where is a good place to buy oil filters and what weight of oil ?
Thanks

Hard for anyone to point you toward good places to buy filters without knowing your location.

Oil may depend on the climate in your location. For me (Southern California) it was 10W-30 oil.

Did you get a Westerbeke manual and a Nonsuch manual with the boat when you purchased it?

If not, are you a member of the International Nonsuch Association? Members can download both Nonsuch manuals and a useful New Nonsuch Owners’ Guide by logging on to www.Nonsuch.org.

The Westerbeke manual can be found and downloaded from their web site.

Your transmission requires Type A Valvoline Dexron II automatic transmission fluid, or equivalent product from other manufacturers.

Here’s a list I was given some time ago from a parts supplier list of equivalents. I’m now electric powered, so this may no longer be up to date.

Please note: oil filters can vary signicantly in price and quality. This information should only be taken as information about what will fit, not what is best. Again, where to go for advice in your area depends on your area.

A word of caution. I was looking for oil filters for my Beta 20hp. I pulled off a list of filters that were supposedly matches to the Beta part number. I happened to have a long life Fram filter of the correct number. I went to install it and it was too fat to fit the space. The Mobile 1 filter listed fit.

One of the reasons we ask posters to give us their name, name of boat, what and where it is, is because we can answer better and quicker.

I use WIX and get them off ebay in 12 unit cases. Avoid Fram, they are junk.

Fram, Motomaster, Purolator, Toyota, and Honda OEM filters (and probably others like Westerbeke) were made in the same plant in Stratford Ont. years ago. It’s not so much the brand, it’s the price. You get what you pay for in Oil filters.
