Oil Pressure

I was motoring at 2500 yesterday when the engine buzzer sounded. Oil pressure had dropped too 25. Temp was fine, as were
rpms and voltage.

I shut the engine, checked oil level and sender and it’s connection and all looked OK. I disconnected the buzzer and motored about 20 minutes to my marina at 1200 rpms while indicated pressure stayed at 25.
Today I pulled the sender and connecting wire. It looked OK and i replaced it. I started the engine, and it ran perfectly, never dipping below 50 indicated!
Whether I install it now or not, I’m getting a new sender. Of course the Westerbeke part is $150. I found an
Sierra aftermarket part that is listed as compatible for $70 0n Ebay.
Any thoughts?

Don,
I would buy the generic sender and save it for when it is needed.

The last time I replaced mine was for under $15 in the local auto parts store

Don: I just remembered, that the W27 has two sensors, one for the gauge and one for the buzzer. The one for the gauge is fat and the one for the buzzer is small. What you described is two problems because the sender for the buzzer is or should be calibrated to come on only if the pressure is much lower as in around 12 lbs. It should not come on at 25.

Thanks Joe. I assume the fat sender, you’re referring to is the barrel shaped unit that is next to the oil filter. It is the one that I was messing with. There is only one wire connected to it, that I assume runs to the gauge. It is bundled with other wires, and would be tough to trace.
Do you know where the sensor for the buzzer is located? Or what the part is?

Here is the wiring diagram that does show both a sender for the gauge and a second one for the buzzer. No clue where the buzzer sender is. But the gauge itself is not that accurate. My volt meter is more an estimate than a reading. My oil pressure show 65 all the time and 25 when at idle.

Don: I believe it is in the same area as the filter. This is what it should look like - https://www.bing.com/shop/productpage?q=napa+oil+pressure+sender&filters=scenario%3a%2217%22+gType%3a%2212%22+gId%3a%22154367656836%22+gIdHash%3a%220%22+gGlobalOfferIds%3a%22154367656836%22+AucContextGuid%3a%220%22+GroupEntityId%3a%22154367656836%22+NonSponsoredOffer%3a%22True%22&productpage=true&FORM=SHPPDP&browse=true

I believe the buzzer sensor is sort of a mushroom shaped device located just below the gauge sensor. It also has a single wire attached to it. I think the wire is orange.

I’ve found the oil pressure buzzer in very different places on my two Nonsuches, FWIW.

Mine is a 33 but I believe it is very similar to the 27. My alarm sensor is below the throttle linkage right next to the Mitsubishi Engine code. Sorry about the pic. Ot wasn’t taken to show the sensor but it’s on the left.

The buzzer or the sender, Bob??

Buzzer, Joe.

On my 26 Classic, it was with the fuel gauges and engine kill in the starboard locker.

On my 26 Ultra, it’s on the port, inaccessible without climbing into the locker (and, since I’m now electric, fully defunct).
