Just wanted to pass along the great experience I’ve had with Arnie Lind of A&L Enterprises. He’s the guy in Washington State that still services the Platinum Cat heaters found in many of our boats.
After some discussion in this group, additional research, and correspondence with our insurance company we decided to go ahead and get the Cat working instead of installing a whole new heating system. The boatyard pulled the unit and it was a mess…the back case was mostly rusted out and the vent hose was starting to crack in multiple places. We weren’t sure it could be salvaged. We were certainly glad we hadn’t tried to use it last year!
Arnie reworked a case he had in stock, cleaned everything up, replaced the blower, and polished up the front grate. Fortunately the heater had seen little use and the platinum blanket was in good shape. Nobody will ever mistake it for a new heater, but it looks great and will function like new. We’ve handed it off to the yard for installation and will get to try it out in about a week or so.
Through the whole process, Arnie stayed in touch and came in at just under his initial estimate. It was a great experience.
Given what we found when we pulled the heater, I’d recommend getting your heater checked out if you don’t know its history. Arnie is definitely the guy for the job.
