new heater???

I have a question about heaters. My platinum cat heater appears to be original and is not working. I started to remove it and parts of it are becoming a pile of rust on the cabin sole.Looks like the base has rusted away, I know it can be sent out and rebuilt. I was wondering if any of you have installed a Dickinson Marine 00-NEW-P9000 Newport Propane Fireplace. This looks like a nice unit and might end up costing about the same but with all the new safety interlocks. If you installed one anything to be aware of? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, Peter.
Our heater was in similar shape. Got it completely rebuilt and a new thermostat for just under $360 shipped. Ours had very little use so the catalytic mat was in great shape. If that needs replacing, it’s really big bucks, apparently. We also took the opportunity to have all the propane hoses replaced and removed the water heater. The original propane hoses to the heater were run from a T off one of the other lines, and that’s not up to code anymore. Keep that in mind when you are figuring your replacement.
