Hi
I have a new holding tank on the way. I am planning to use Marlon fittings for the main service connections.
What thread treatment do you all recommend. Plumber’s pipe dope, Teflon plumbing tape, or
a modern day sealant such as 3M4200, 3M5200 or Boatlife LifeSeal. All three are rated for underwater use.
With any luck, all three will outlast me !!!

Al, I used 5200 as I’m not interested in leaks of any kind
The series 5200 is a GLUE! as well it seals, this was used may years ago to hold everything, as the years passed it was recognized that a boat needs maintenance*. That some people don’t seem to realize.* Silicone will do the best job if you are threading, as it seals and stays rubbery and will not break down or leak, and if you unfortunately have to remove it, you won’t have to destroy it. This myth of using 5200 to seal everything is no longer viable, try and lift a stanchion base off the deck without breaking the gel coat, or maybe! By working for hours. According to builders and when you get surveyed, these should be redone every 15-20 years, as well as all deck fittings, of course you won’t use silicone on fiberglass, Sikaflex or similar, at some point it must be redone, mind you not many people do it, until it’s to late and they have a core problem. So I would not use 5200 on your plumbing, worse case I would use Sikaflex.

I replaced my holding tank last year and used Marlon fittings. I highly recommend a “Loctite” product called “No More Leaks Plastic Pipe Sealant”. It’s excellent… and easy to use. ( Don’t overtighten! the fittings! )

Absolutely no luck. Did you find it in an Automotive Store ?
Where did you find it and does it have a product number ?

Hi Al, I did a Google search and found several links, here’s one for a 2 ounce tube @ $4.19, there are others for larger quantities and more money.
