Port Hole and Hatch Replacement Screens

I’m looking at getting replacement screens for my NS30U. In past discussions users have posted they were able to buy replacement screens from Binnacle, but it appears that these Viking screens are no longer available.

I can buy them from Atkins and Hoyle directly, but they are very pricey https://atkinshoyle.com/port-screens.html

Binnacle does have a listing for a similar sized screen, but I can’t find any compatibility with our ports. These are listed as Beckson Screens for 5 x12 ports.

There haven’t been any posts that I can see since 2020 on the screen replacements. Can anyone help me with what has worked for them? Any advice is appreciated!

I have no idea of the provenance but we have combined screens with clear louvers for our ports. We basically can leave the ports open all summer even in a heavy rain. Only downside is that the visibility is not as good as with screen only.

I removed the screen frames and had a local glass/screen company replace the screens on my N36.

Making them is not too hard…

A few years back I cut the worn-out screening out of our A & H screen frames and then epoxied new screening to the frames. They have been working fine although the plastic is admittedly towards the end of its usable lifespan. It is an easy fix to get a few more years out of what you got.

Thor - I clicked on the link to YouTube you posted and get a response saying the video is no longer available.

Just buy some screen material from the local Home Depot. Cut a piece to the port size. Either use some double sided tape like seam stick from Sailrite or use a glue gun to hold the screen material to the port frame. Buy me dinner with the money you save.

I would like to repair mine but they are too far gone for that. The plastic became brittle and cracked. Time for new ones I think. Was hoping for something less expensive than $50 each. Apparently Atkins and Hoyle doesn’t even manufacture screens for their hatches any longer. I’m thinking get the port screens while we can before those are also discontinued and we’re SOL.

A while ago, a group of Atkins and Hoyle employees formed their own business in Markham, just north of Toronto. It’s called Hammerhead Nautical Systems and they “repair/replace” A & H ports, screens, etc.

Why ?? Because these folks knew darn well that A & H products are punishingly overpriced. I believe that they do a good job and they are definitely cheaper. Prices are in Canadian funds + 13% tax + shipping, I guess.

I’ll give you the link but sometimes my virus protection “reacts” to this. If you have an issue, phone or email them. While not expressly saying so, their products match A & H products.

Good luck. Also, if you cannot use the link, Google Hammerhead Nautical Systems or Hammerhead Markham.

Thank you.

Thanks for all of the input. I’ll give the Hammerhead crew a call.

One of our members created a CAD file for 3D printing new screens. Here is a link to the files

I have got a couple of quotes from local companies (Vancouver B.C.) they came in at about $35 Cdn. Then you have to buy the screening, rubber beading and make them. They are nicer than the originals.

Might have goofed on the link :upside_down_face:

On mine the metal spring clips had rusted way. I went to Home Depot and bought a screen window kit. I was able to make the two hatch screens. Just had to buy 4 extra corners. Then just added Velcro to hold them in place. Been working fine for 3 years. Total cost maybe $20 US.
