I have tons of teak on my boat. Lots more than when I bought it. When I bought it in 2004 it had peeling cetol. I bought finish and gloss and figured out it would require sanding to get off the peeling cetol and it took at least two coats of base and two coats of gloss and a re do periodically. I decided to go varnish. I sanded everything down to bare and put on 11 coats per the directions on Epifanes Gloss cans. Every six months the teak is lightly sanded and two coats of Epifanes Gloss goes on. My boat is in Southern California where the sun does a job on varnish. The two coats every six months is all I need. (the boat is in the water all year and used weekly). Port side gets more sun but all is done every six months. Boat looks stunning all the time.
On another subject, I found a wax made by turtle wax. Paste Graphene and Ceramic paste wax. Easy on easy off. Lasted 11 months in the sun before re do. You have to use cleaner first. Fabulous gloss.
