Hi all, our N30C (hull 40) had teak toe rails. They were mounted by wood screws on top of the thru-bolts for the deck to hull connection. They were high maintenance and more importantly, they leaked. Mike Quill had/has(?) a stock of aluminum rails. I bought some and installed them with 5200 and thru bolts. Kind of a massive job, but in the end…maintenance free and DRY.
I should have documented the process for the toe rail…but I didn’t. I was on a bit of a time window and had two people helping me. (Wife Jill was one of them and we are still married!) if I had a fourth or more time, I could have documented more
Actually I didn’t. I just followed the curve and also the outline of the teak toe rail. The curve looks impossible to make, but it isn’t. We dry fit it, bolt by bolt. You need the better part of two rails per side. We positioned the joint at the mid-ship fairlead.
There was a N30C up for sale at Noank a few years back where the PO replaced the cap rail with aluminum I think and mounted the stancions on it after recoring the decks. It added a lot of room to the decks.
My comment wasn’t a criticism about this beautiful installation, just to be clear. On my 26 they really eat into the space available. A project in the future!
