The main engine shaft seal has been leaking a bit. Decided to replace
it. Asked my Westerbeke dealer for price and availability. Would you
believe $87.50.
Thanks to advice last year from INA member Dave Easley, (no relation),
I went to the internet.
Found a web site with Google, ncwtractorparts.com, they supply all
sorts of parts for the Mitsubishi K4D engine, which is the basis of
Westerbeke W-27 engine. Their price $29.50 plus $5.00 shipping. The
site is easy to use and their staff great if you need advice.
Last year I bought a Westerbeke head gasket for $214 checked the NCW
price, $67.69. There are markups and then there are MARKUPS!
Unless it is specifically marine like the exhaust manifold, it would
be smart to look elsewhere.
The W-27 is a reliable smooth running engine, but keep in mind,
MITSUBISHI made it, Westerbeke just modified it for marine use. BTW
the NCW prices are list on their web site......no discount.
Hi John
Is that the same model for the 27a? I need a head gasket myself and prices I found are around $200 ...thanks Mike Sshiff TAYVA N30U 407 Pultneyville NY
There is an injector rebuild place in Huntington Long Island thats been there for years. I haven’t used them myself but other friends have. If you want I can try to find their number.

I've read somewhere that red Westerbeke engines are Mitsubishi blocks and
the bronze are Kubota's. Not sure of the accuracy but others may comment.
I have a W33(a) and wonder if anyone could enlighten me on the difference
between the 33 and the 33(a).
I believe the Mitsubishi block model is cast on the side of the engine
block. K4D or something similar. Actually finding it on the engine
may be challenging due to cramped access.
I think, not sure though, that all the Westerbeke W-XX ( W13-W33)
engines are Mitsubishi. The Universal line is Kubota.
Joe: go to the web site http://www.ncwtractorparts.com and check the
various images.
There are head gaskets for two and three cylinder engines under the
M4D section, but I don't know if the 18 is a M4D designation too.
Better yet talk to there tech people, they are very helpful.
They do have rebuilt injector assemblies at $88.
