Windlass Replacement for N36

The antique vertical shaft Simpson-Lawrence windlass on my N36 was completely seized and useless. The previous owner had not used the boat in 7 years, so I have no idea how it got to this state. I therefor had the yard remove the windlass (had to cut it into pieces) and now face the job of replacing it. I wonder if anyone in Nonsuch land has replaced their windlass. I’m inclined to install a Lewmar V3. My vessel has 6’ of chain to a rope rode.

Whom ever you are, there are lots of choices and you want to get info from someone with a 36 that already has one they like. Please not how most of us sign our posts so we know who, what and where you are.

I replaced mine with the v3, combo rope and chain.
needed extra long shaft so that it was at the proper height in relation to rollers

Fritz Reilly installed a new one about two years ago.

Did the V3 use the same four bolt pattern as the original Simpson-Lawrence model? That would make installation much easier.
