Winterizing in Maine

I have a Yanmar 3JH2CE engine with a Yanmar SD31 saildrive. The raw water enters from the saildrive through an attached seacock. I assume that after I haul the boat I can dis-attach the hose leading to the water filter, then join a hose to it that I can then put in a five gallon bucket so that I can run the engine. Change fuel filters, change oil and filter. This is my main question- about the raw water.

After changing the oil in the saildrive, put in a new O ring in the drain plug hole. Evidently the saildrive fully drains and needs no antifreeze?

Is there anything I am missing? Then I drain water tanks (glassed in), disattach water lines from hot water heater, joining them, then add antifreeze where the water lines feed to the fresh water pump, pumping water thru the vanity & galley sink. Drain hot water tank- should I run anti freeze through it first to be sure?

Have holding tank emptied, add maybe 20 gallons fresh water, pumping it out again. Then flush into it maybe a gallon of antifreeze.

Does this cover it for Portland, Maine? Or am I missing anything?

Nick,

I don’t have these problems at the opposite end of the country in Los Angeles, but people who know a lot about it wrote a checklist of winterizing steps in Appendix 5 of the New Nonsuch Owners Quick Guide.

I looked you up and see you’re an INA member, so I’ll mail you a download link as a private message. If anyone else is interested, it can be found by clicking MANUALS on the MEMBERS tab at www.Nonsuch.org
