Greetings all. Storing the wishbone on the deck is ideal because it keeps it in a horizontal plane. When yards believe they are doing you a favor by storing it vertical on its side, they seem to forget what happens when water collects in the lower tube and freezes.
I like the idea of having the yard take the boom ashore while I’m working on the mast. I bet they will charge an additional lay charge for it (mast was $175/day two years ago, probably more now) but it might be worth it given the hassle of setting up the boom to ride on the deck while I drive the boat to/from my slip in a different marina. It will only be for a day or two and I doubt that it has been cold enough in San Diego to freeze water in the boom since the last ice age, so I’m more worried about them finding a rack to safely store it in. It’s not exactly shaped like a sloop’s boom.
