26C A&H main cabin hatch size?

Hello all,
I’d like to buy a fancy shade/cover for my main cabin hatch. That summer heat turns our salon into a Dutch oven.

I searched the manuals and our discussion group on the part looking for size.
There’s every other aspect of repair addressed, but not the size if one were to replace.

Notwithstanding I’m looking for the size to buy the right sized fancy new cover.

Would anyone know the dims for the 26C main hatch?

I sewed up a cover for mine last year. I believe the hatch top is 21 inches square. I’ll be at the boat on Friday and can make a measurement for you then.

Last year someone recommended a film on hatch glass to block sun and heat. Can be easily removed if needed.

Easy to apply and inexpensive, about US$15/CA$20. I bought some, but never got around to installing it.

My recollection is that Blue Performance makes a fancy cover that should fit. I had one on my N26C and it worked perfectly for several years, but then one windy day at the dock and it was gone.

Hi Bob, Yes, Marine Outfitters has a sale on BLUE, That’s the one I’m coveting…but what size…? 21" sounds right, but is it?

I did apply mirror film last year and it helped 50%…a shade should do the rest.
Cheers,

Mike - off topic, but maybe not.

A long time ago I had a 34 foot sailboat in the Med. Fibreglass. White. I had a “cover” that lay over the boom and extended out towards the stanchions, and also in front of the mast, if I remember correctly (but maybe not - I’ll have to find pictures when I’m back home).

Only used at dock (always stern to, old plank to the actual dock) or at anchor of course.

Putting that thing on shielded a lot of the deck above the cabin, and it made an incredible difference to the temperature inside. I keep thinking of one hooked to the mast sail cradle lines from mast back to dodger, tied off to lifelines.

No, I have not acted on it yet, but if this summer is like the last, it may get bumped up a notch or two in the todo list!

Consider the Oceanair series of screen and shade combos. I’ve installed them in both my forward and aft hatches.

Joe has a great suggestion – I’d forgotten those, but I had them on a previous boat and they’re great.

Because they’re on the inside, you can’t lose them. My vague recollection is that there’s even a version which has two pull shades - one perforated to allow partial light, and the other solid for full darkening.

I drilled out my pedestal base for the engine cut off. I didn’t have to shorten the cable. I supported it with a piece of teak. Works great!

Measured today, the external forward hatch top is 21.5 in square.

Thanks Joe,
Was that the full outside flange measurement, or the lexan lid?
