26C rub rails

The rub rails on Sea Horse have seen better days. Has anyone replaced the rub rails on their 26 C?
If so, what did you use, and how big a pain was it?

I do remember someone on this list discussing them. I wish i had them on my 30.

I found the discussion and know about Hamilton Marine replacements, I’m looking for insight as to the difficulty (cuss factor) factor.

Rail is 20" long. The bolts are every 8" apart so approx. 30 on each side of the boat.

In vee berth the slatting will need to be removed for access and on my boat the 12V panels aft of the head will need to be dismounted to provide access.

The big Q is whether they were adhered with something nasty or just sealed at each bolt hole.

There is a nonsuch 30 owner in Michigan who replaced his rub rails with the Hamilton marine product but his name escapes me at the moment. I believe that he monitors this group as I have seen his emails occasionally. He may see your query. I investigated replacing the rub rails on my 33 eight years ago due to rot in one section. I elected to have a local marine woodworker replace a 20 ft section in mohagany instead of the Hamilton marine product. My reasons were primarily cost due to shipping, duty, brokerage fees at the border and finding someone local and competent to install them. I recall that the rails are through bolted and sealed at each mounting hole but not bonded to the hull with adhesive.

Helen,
Thanks for your response. I contacted Fred privately and have included his response to bring everyone up to date on the process.
I’m encouraged to hear that the rail was not adhesively adhered to the hull beyond the bolting /sealing process.
