We have a 30 Ultra. Does anyone know the best options for the AirHead?
Crank on right or left?
Fan housing straight or right-angle?
Tank type: flat or hull?
Recommendation of liquid bottle? 2 gal std. or 1 gal compact?
Any input appreciated.

I found some great pics on the thread.
My current thinking, for install go with left handle and move head as far to left as practical to get as much room as possible for drawers/door on right. Hose housing is personal preference depending on how venting is to be done. It appears the two installs I found with pics used straight back (not hull fit with bottom back cantered), but hard to tell. Again, any input appreciated.

James - we installed an Airhead in 2010. There are pictures of our installation on the Nonsuch Discussion Group, including some in the link you posted. If you cannot find them, e-mail me and I will share them. We have the crank on the right side and have the toilet over to the left just enough to be able to open the door to get under the sink and still crank the agitator handle. Our vent goes into the shower and up to the opening for the Dorado box which was converted to a solar fan (it is one with a battery to keep it running at night, but the battery died and I am not replacing it - I don’t like listening to the fan at night and I never have odors). Our TP holder is on the inside of he door beneath the sink. We needed to run it over the top of the door so you do not have to open the door while using the head. We screwed a length of line to the inside of the door at the top to keep the paper from falling back inside.
Tank type - no idea - there were no options when we bought. We also have whatever size bottle they supplied at the time.
Practical Sailor had a big article recently on “composting” heads - you might look at it. The smell of the fluids dropped drastically when we switched our spray bottle for rinsing the head from water to water and vinegar. The price point to real good and you can clean windows with it when you are bored.

Now, thinking completely out of the box, what do you think would happen if it was put on the shower side and used as a seat when showering or just stand in front of it while showering? Would shower run into it and foul it up so to speak? We’ve all seen sail boats with the showering unit with the head.

The Airhead is admittedly difficult to use if you are short - needing a folding step to get to the seat when it is installed in a 30U. By putting the Airhead in the shower, you will now need a folding step to use the head and the shower. The shower compartment may also be a little shorter from hull to shower door than the regular toilet compartment (the hull does pinch as one goes forward . . . ).
What do you gain - a shorter run on the vent line and full access to the drawers in the main head compartment. While you gain better access to the compartment behind the toilet in the main compartment, you lose ready access to the one in the head, which is more of a storage compartment then the one behind the toilet in the main compartment (with access to pumps). With the Airhead installed where the WC was installed, if you need to access the pumps, you remove the whole Airhead (takes but a minute or two) and you have excellent access for working on the pumps.

LLoyd, thanks for the great input. My order is in! Now the fun part will be figuring out what venting design I want. I find it encouraging that many report the fan isn’t needed. I would think if you have enough air coming into the coming (the boat will almost always be facing into a breeze) vented into the shower like my boat, should induce circulation within the Airhead if vented properly without a fan.
