Replacing through hull shutoff valves with Marelon ones. Gate valves should be replaced, according to the surveyor.
Sealing new valves, i’d use Teflon plumbing tape. The originals appear to use some flex sealant. I use Teflon tape, applied tapered on parallel threads for 100psi steam, but …
I think Permaflex Thread Sealant, Part # 14H is a better solution. It does not ball up the way the tape can and provides a good flexible seal. It is also much easier to apply.

I just replaced a seacock with a Marelon one and used teflon tape as recommended. No problems, it went on smoothly, twisted in easily and more importantly, is not leaking.
