I have a Universal m35 in need of an exhaust mixing elbow. Can’t seem to locate one. Any suggestions appreciated.
There’s a company called HDI that makes stainless steel exhaust elbows. I’ve got one on my Volvo MD2040 and am very happy with it. It was an exact replacement. They were recommended by a friend who put one on his Ford Lehman and who had the same experience with it.
I just looked on their website (https://hdimarine.net) and they do not have any Universal elbows, but they do have a section for them. They take original equipment elbows, repair and up-engineer them if necessary, and duplicate in stainless, so they are usually direct replacements. I read somewhere that they get the originals from customers like you, which is a good way for a business like that to invest only in the tooling that there is an actual demand for. So you might give them a call and see what they can do. I don’t remember for sure, but I think their SS elbow for my engine was about half the cost of a new one from Volvo. Still not cheap, but this one will outlive me.
Thanks Brian
You can also make your own mixing elbow using 316 stainless pipe and some elbow fittings. A good machine shop can drill and weld in the attachment you need for the cooling water injector.
The pieces and machine shop may very well come in cheaper than buying an off-the-shelf replacement.

Just a thought but is not back pressure calculated and then incorporated for individual diesel engines?
