I made a new one from teak-faced ply, with a cherry wood surround and an acrylic hinged cover.

Andrew,
When you do offer them for sale, I’d encourage you to post it at https://nonsuch.org/items-for-sale rather than here.
Things posted there stick around, whereas things in this forum get pushed down by new stuff very quickly.

Hi Andrew,
I’m just wondering if there is any progress on making new dorade boxes? I’m certainly interested in getting one, maybe two.
Thanks,

Hi Andrew,
Perhaps you, or another qualified Nonsucher, would provide some tips on how to remove the old dorade box ?

Hi everyone,
I got a couple of PM’s and one public forum reply about the “price” or “availability” of the dorades. I’m sorry to say that I made 4 of them just for my own use, and posted the result only to illustrate that they can be build by an amateur looking awesome.
So, about my busyness on the wrong side side of the Atlantic building dorades for Nonsuches that are all on the other side, I foresee a few problems. One is, trans Atlantic transport is not cheap these days. The other (major) issue is, that I think that few dorades are the same. The ones Andrew Barkhouse (TS, N33) made, look very different from mine. In one of his posts, he mentions that his are molded of the originals. So are mine. It’s not only the way his are mounted on the cabin roof (flange vs inner slats) but also the slope and the shape of them that is quite different. This is just by comparing them on an internet picture. Who knows how the boxes of a N26 are shaped or mounted? Not me. Not to mention color matching the gelcoat etc. I could build boxes finished in epoxy primer with enough height so you can cut them correctly to your deck slope. Still a serious task for somebody that doesn’t have the skills if you ask me. My thought so far, if anybody has a better idea, please share.
By the way, just to kill curiosity (i am NOT offering services…) My educated guess is, that the price of ONE box would be around 120 usd. It’s not the material but the hours. They need to be perfect since they’re in direct sight and it takes some time to prepare the mould.

Whitecap sells a teak dorade box that can be trimmed to fit individual deck camber. Base dimensions are 16" L x 7" W x 5-3/8" H. Folks can do a search on “whitecap teak dorade box” to find an on-line supplier or go to https://www.whitecapindustries.net/how-to-purchase. What appears to be the identical box is also sold under the SeaTeak brand name. Prices seem to range from $46 or $80 USD, depending on where you look.
As near as I can tell from a quick web search, the only way to buy an off-the-shelf fiberglass dorade box that looks right and fits the boat requires also buying the boat comes attached underneath it.
For those who don’t care for teak maintenance (e.g., moi), another option is to build a dorade box out of Starboard, PlasTeak, or some other synthetic wood-like material. This is on my to-do list, and I’ll post about it when it gets done. My plan is to reverse-engineer the design from looking at the teak box currently on my boat.

So just a quick update things have been super busy with work and getting the boat put away for winter. I have colour matched gelcoat coming in next week hopefully and should be able to make some the following week. I will post some photos and a link to the for sale items when ready.
