First camera for sailing?

Ahoy! We’re considering a camera to document our sailing adventures! If we only can get one, should we get a drone? or a GoPro camera? Suggestions for good (inexpensive!) beginner-friendly models? Other resources? Thank you!

Hi Richard,

I would recommend looking at DJI hand held camera with auto stabilization where you can add an external mic with background sound deadening device (rabbit) because wind noise is almost always going to ruin a good sailing video. I have a couple of friends that create YouTube videos and they much prefer the DJI models over their GoPro cameras. Drones are good but sometimes recovery can be difficult and a little dangerous. I watched a couple of experienced “YouTube “ creators have been bitten by drones while trying to recover them. Remember that you’re on a moving platform that you need to control as well as adding a drone into the mix. It gets complicated. Practice at home is recommended less you lose your expensive equipment to the sea.

Have fun creating videos.

I really like the Insta360 X3. It’s an amazing camera, can act like a drone and you can get great shots from outside the boat with the selfie stick.
