GPS

Hi
Any have an opinion experience with Raymarine Axiom 9RV multifunction with transom mounted realvision transducer vs Garmin GPS map 942xs. . Would appreciate any experience with either. Thank you.

My 22 had a 942xs which I liked so much I’ve purchased a new one for my 26C upgrade. It had an Airmar in-hull (not thru) which I also am copying. I don’t know if a transom mount will always be reliably in the water or in a clean water flow.

The link below has an elegant, simple mounting method which I copied because I want to be able to reach the GPS easily while singlehanding.

It was necessary to cut and splice the transducer and NMEA cables to get them routed thru the pedestal guard.

I have all part numbers/vendors if you decide to go down this road.

I’m also installing a Raymarine EV-100 Auto Pilot…one needs to do some crossover work to get the NMEA and SeaTalk systems to be compatible.

I have no in water experience with either sorry. I really liked my 11 year old Garmin421 so I bought another Garmin.

Garmin had(has) a deal this winter on last years 75SV model which included the LakeVueMap and transducer GT52HW-TM Transom Transducer. $699CAD

The Garmin rep said Garmin was unloading obsolete stock before a new model comes out.

After I try it out with a jury rigged transom(rudder) bracket, my plan was to try and sell or trade the GT52HW-TM Transom Transducer. All I really need is a thru-hull depthsounder but the forward looking function sounded interesting. I’m pretty sure a transom mount won’t work on a Nonsuch because of the rudder and prop turbulence unless the transducer is mounted to the bottom of the rudder.

New 3D printed arch bracket on the bottom left.

If I wanted to install this transducer permanently:
-The transducer cable connector is .64 inch OD and I was hoping it would fit through the arch.
-Obviously the best place to install a forward looking transducer is in front of the keel. And then it should be mounted level. I don’t have a solution yet.

The cables aren't the problem, the connectors will not fit thru the 3/4"
hole I drilled into the guard. Their length prevents them from making the
bend needed to exit the tube...splice kits are available from Defender

All 4 cables fit snugly thru the hole in the deck I drilled in the center
of the guard foot. (3 GPS + 1 Auto pilot)

Thanks Joe. That makes sense now. It would have to be a very long oval hole for the connector to go through.

Tom,

That price seems very good. Most sites are more money. What dealer has that price. Thank you

I found Hodges Marine in FL to have the best prices.

Binnacle marine in Halifax. I am only assuming they have one because it is still on their Canadian website. They ship to the US but unfortunately Garmin has this dealer network agreement that may prevent them from shipping Garmin to the USA.
