Has anyone got experience with JPM raw water pumps

New to me W 21.

I’ve found notes/sketches from deceased prior owner about fussing with the pump and still having water leaks. SO… I’m looking to replace the original 24143 raw water pump superseded several #s to 48080.

BTW - does the pump rotate clockwise or anticlockwise?

Found JPM pump # JPR-WBO8IP for $329. Seems like these are made in Korea.

Anyone got good or bad experience?

Shall we assume that you have a Westerbeke engine?? What size??

Correct W-21

Sorry, Joe, it was right in front of me. I don’t know which way it turns and, when replacing the impellor, it doesn’t matter. I’ve had both of the different pumps on my engine and they all seem to work fine. The only difference appears to be the angle of the input/output fittings. I have found that when changing the impellor on my “VEE” drive that it is easier to remove the whole pump. Takes me about 15 – 20 minutes to remove and less then 30 to re-install. If the hoses are over 5 years old, I replace them.

Joe, just a suggestion. Assuming your vee drive is like mine (W33) or a W27 you may think about trying what I did to make impeller changes easier. I replaced three of the plate bolts with SS studs loctited in place. Now I can place the gasket with one hand, then the plate, then the nuts and finally the remaining bolts. I also increased my access port in the stbd. locker so I can actually see the pump but I could do this even from behind now.

That is the difference between yours and mine, Paul – I don’t have access through a locker on the stbd. side. It can only be accessed through the cockpit locker while sitting in there.

It still should be easier than removing the pump I would think, even from behind.

Believe me, Paul, I’ve tried all ways in the 16 years I’ve owned her and I am a retired mechanic.
