I need to replace my impeller, is there a “how to” video or can someone help with a step by step. I have the original westerbeke 27 hp engine.
Any help would be appreciated.

Eric: The problem is that not all 30U’s are configured the same as to storage, shelves, etc. I have mine configured that I can pull the whole pump (better then trying to remove impeller in place) in about 20 - 25 minutes from the starboard lazerette. The re-install takes about 30 minutes. I remove anything that’s in the way including the strainer and hoses. As a mechanic, I’ve found over the years that it’s usually quicker to remove more easy items then to struggle with the hard ones.

I have the same question regarding the same situation. There is no direct way to get to the face of the impeller cover. Hope you have some good responses.

On Nonsuch Luck there is an opening cut into the side of the larger locker on the starboard side of the cabin which allows access to the face of the raw water pump. It’s not perfect access but certainly a lot better than trying to get to it from the starboard lazarette. I think this was a factory modification probably in response to owners’ concerns about improving the pump’s get-at-ability!

Looks like mine on the 21 hp. I pulled the alternator to make it easier to get at the pump. Disconnected the (2) water lines. Pulled the (4) mounting bolts holding the pump in. Pulled the pump. My pump cover had 9/32 bolts which I did not initially have. There were a couple types of impellers so you need to ensure you have the correct one. I installed the new impeller filled the pump with glycerine and pu it all back together again.
I don’t know about all the boat sizes, but the main cockpit floor forward of the helm lifts out. doesn’t look like it, but it does making the engine room easy to work on. probably the way they originally installed the engines. check it out

If it is the same as mine, just a few months earlier, you will have the large cabinet Bob referred to on the Stbd side. Mine had access hardly big enough for checking oil but it’s an easy fix to enlarge it for quite good access to the pump.
I also replaced the front plate screws on the pump with two studs / nuts and the rest knurled head Allen screws. The studs allow you to place the gasket with one hand and have it stay put while you place the cover and the Allen screws are easier to install and tighten than the hex / slot screws.
I can replace an impeller in less than half an hour this way.
For tightening thumb screws, which are a good option vs small bolts. I found this at Canadian tire, works well in tight spaces and much easier to use than pliers or Visegrips…

I have a 354 with a Westerbeke diesel. My RW pump faces backwards which is impossible to deal with. A mirror will not work. I’m a slow learner so it took me a while to realize that it is much easier to simply remove the pump. There are only 4 bolts but it is tight quarters my engine. I would also recommend buying an impeller puller. they are expensive, but I’ve tried the 2 screwdriver method and the puller has been money well spent.
